Introduction
The Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation was established as a private foundation in 1986 by Harold Grinspoon, founder and principal partner of Aspen Square Management, a real estate company, based in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Aspen Square owns and operates residential apartment complexes and commercial property in over 30 states. HGCF seeks to provide philanthropic support primarily, although not exclusively, in Western Massachusetts, where Harold Grinspoon and his wife, Diane Troderman, make their home.
Inspired by his own experience and spurred to action by the economic needs of his community, Harold Grinspoon has in recent years been involved in philanthropic initiatives in the following areas:
- Rewarding excellence in teaching
- Encouraging young people to reach their academic and leadership potential
- Encouraging entrepreneurship among young people
- Promoting literacy and early childhood education
- Encouraging energy conservation in homes
Harold Grinspoon and Diane Troderman are deeply committed to charitable giving in the Jewish world, and, in 1993, created a separate foundation - The Harold Grinspoon Foundation - to support this work. However, some of their contributions to Jewish institutions and groups continue to be funded through HGCF. - to support this work.
