Impressed by the fine leadership qualities of Stephen Clay, president of the Greater Springfield YMCA, HGCF has supported the YMCA in efforts to explore the feasibility of expanding camping opportunities.

Inspired, too, by the leadership of Jill Paul, executive director of the Girl Scouts of the Pioneer Valley, and sharing her belief in the value of camping experience for girls, HGCF played a role in late 2003 in the expansion of Girl Scout Camp Bonnie Brae. In 2003-2004, the foundation committed to sponsoring inner city girls to attend Camp Bonnie Brae, by funding camp scholarships. A sub-fund was established in 2001-2002 for the Pioneer Valley Girl Scouts.
