The hallmark annual event of the foundation is the Pioneer Valley Awards for Excellence in Teaching.

This initiative, first given to 96 outstanding teachers in the region in Spring 2003, is expanding.

In 2004, HGCF, with our partners, the Davis Foundation and MassMutual, honored and recognized 126 outstanding educators in public and private schools in the Pioneer Valley as more school districts joined the award program.

In 2004, three banquets with more than 1,300 guests were held to celebrate the teachers.The awards carry a cash prize for each teacher, provide opportunities for advanced professional training in education, and foster forums in which to share best practices.
